A 2009 peer-reviewed paper reports energetic red/gray chips in WTC dust that the authors identify as unreacted thermitic material.
Interpretation
If the identification holds, it is material to H004/H006. If the chips are paint, it is not. Both the measurement and the paint-rebuttal stay on the board.

OBSERVATION (Harrit, Farrer, Jones, Ryan, Legge, Farnsworth, Roberts, Gourley, Open Chem. Phys. J. 2009): Authors report red/gray chips in four WTC dust samples; DSC exotherms near 430°C; iron-rich spheres after ignition; elemental maps they interpret as unreacted thermite. Chain of custody of the dust is incomplete relative to a crime-lab standard. Bentham Open's editorial process has been criticised. NIST did not replicate the study in public and attributes red chips to primer paint (EVD-122). The paper is a citable measurement claim. It is not a building-collapse proof by itself.
