OBSERVATION (Eagar & Musso, Journal of Metals, December 2001): The paper distinguishes melting from weakening. It treats office-furnishings fires, ignited by jet fuel, as able to bring floor-truss connections down without melting the steel. Collapse in seconds is attributed to the buildings' lightweight truss floors and hollow-tube bearing walls once initiation starts.

This is an academic speculation weeks after the event, not the 2005 NIST NCSTAR 1 model (which later emphasised inward bowing of exterior columns rather than a classic pancake). Bazant pancake papers are already stored separately.

INTERPRETATION: Supports impact-plus-fire initiation of the towers (H003) and weighs against a requirement for melted steel or planted explosives (H004). It is not a WTC 7 paper. It is not a laboratory demolition test. Later NIST work supersedes some mechanical detail; the melt-vs-weaken distinction remains the load-bearing sentence alternative literature still has to answer.
