Observation

A public-archive email describes street-level ash, paper, a 08:53 Wall Street exit, and the sound of a second aircraft hitting the South Tower from 5–6 blocks away, plus a Pentagon-evacuation report from Washington.

Interpretation

Consistent with H001/H002 (two aircraft into two towers) and with a Pentagon strike that morning. 'Explosions' here are street-level rumblings during the event, not a charge identification. Identity of the writer is not independently verified in this lab.

OBSERVATION (September 11 Digital Archive item 36715, collection Emails). Subject: 'My experience 6 blocks from ground zero yesterday - Safe today in NYC'. Body (excerpted, names of family retained as in the public object):

Writer came out of the subway at 08:53 on Wall Street, 2 blocks from the WTC; saw smoke and fire; thought it was a serious fire; already being showered in ash and papers ('like a ticker tape parade'). Called a partner to say a major fire was underway and the sky filled with paper. Walking down Wall Street to a client meeting, heard engine thrust of a second plane and the sound of it hitting the second tower, then about 5–6 blocks away. Cars stopped and blared radios. Four colleagues from WCOM met on the sidewalk. Streams of people coming from the WTC. 'Rumblings of the building and explosions caused everyone to jump.' Misinformation filled the air. They walked toward the East River.

Partner in Washington was evacuated from 'the Bank' after the Pentagon and spent the night in Baltimore.

Archive Date field on the Omeka object also shows 'September 12, 2002' as a later cataloguing stamp; the body is written as the morning after ('yesterday morning', 08:53 subway). Treat the narrative as claiming 12 Sep 2001 authorship; the file-entry date is not the observation date.
