Observation

Investigative journalists, citing civil-case evidence, report that Bayoumi's trip timing was false and the meeting appears planned.

Interpretation

If the underlying records match the reporting, chance-meeting is weakened. Media is not the record.

Source text

SECONDARY: ProPublica and the New York Times, using evidence produced in civil discovery, reported that Bayoumi's account of when he went to Los Angeles is inconsistent with other records, and that the 'chance cafe meeting' story is weaker than it appeared in 2004.

Prefer the underlying discovery documents when they are ingested. Until then this is a pointer, not a primary.
